Traveling to New York is an interesting trip whether going through Ontario, Connecticut, New Jersey, or Pennsylvania. Travelers find New York a state of contrasts. From Niagara Falls and Buffalo in the west and Manhattan in the east, New York has something for every traveler. The Finger Lakes Region with pristine Skaneateles Lake near Syracuse has horseback riding, swimming, fishing, hiking, and boating. While the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains also offer beautiful year-round vistas, have skiing, ice skating, kayaking, canoeing, and snowboarding. Because New York is steeped in history from the Dutch settlers to the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War, some travelers enjoy following historic trails, pathways,
and rivers, including the famous Erie Canal which opened the Great Lakes region to trade and settlements. While traveling through northern New York, Cooperstown with its Baseball Hall of Fame is a popular destination. New York has an abundance of interesting cities from Rochester and Schenectady to Albany, but no one can ignore New York. The city that is so interesting that one has to say its name twice "New York, New York." New York was the first capital of the United States and set the stage for modern commerce. New York has lodging and dining for all tastes as well as many museums, including the Metropolitan, Museum of Modern Art, Whitney, and Guggenheim. Its public transportation is convenient for moving around the city whether attending a concert in Central Park, listening to a symphony at Lincoln Center, touring the United Nations, or visiting the Statue of Liberty and the South Street Seaport. After visiting the city, travelers, who want a change of pace, can take a train or drive to Long Island which has the summer resort areas of Fire Island and the Hampton.
